Your work belongs to a larger conversation.
And understanding how it fits into this conversation determines whether or not your work is taken seriously in the Contemporary Art world
It’s quite likely that the questions you're exploring in your paintings have been investigated by artists for hundreds of years.
Because every artist works in relation to a larger history of ideas, images, and artistic investigations.
Understanding those relationships can fundamentally change how you think about your own work and how you actually approach your work.
On Day 2, we'll examine how artists use historical research, intellectual traditions, and the work of other artists to develop their practices.
You'll learn to identify meaningful relationships between your paintings and art history, and discover how those relationships can expand your understanding of your own work.
Through a comparative investigation of your own paintings, you'll begin identifying the larger artistic conversations your work may be participating in.
